How to get a Mexican War file

The service records are already scanned: Mexican War compiled service records are digitized on Fold3, searchable by name. The pension and bounty-land files are paper at the National Archives, and they are interfiled, which works in your favor: one order can return both.

When it arrives

Then the reading starts

The service record tells the tour; the pension and land files tell the family. Here is what our report does with these records, and the waitlist below holds today's price for you.

Plan the whole journey

What the trip costs, start to finish

The service record is the quick half: on Fold3 (free at most public libraries), then $35 for the report, days later. The pension and bounty-land files are one National Archives order with NARA's copy fee and mail weeks, and they're often interfiled, so one order can bring the whole claim. Start the NARA order first; the service-record report makes good reading while you wait.

Tell us about your soldier

We're opening in stages, by record type. The more you tell us, the sooner we get to yours.

We'll email you when your record type opens, and nothing else. Please don't send documents yet. We're not set up to receive them, and we'd rather not hold your files before we can do anything with them.

You're on the list.

We'll be in touch when your record type opens. If you told us you're still waiting on a file, we'll send you the ordering instructions in the meantime.
