How to get a War of 1812 file

A rarity worth knowing: the War of 1812 pension files were digitized by a crowd-funded preservation campaign, and they are free to view on Fold3, no subscription. The bounty-land files are a separate, older set.

Step by step

Pensions free online, bounty land by order

When it arrives

Then the reading starts

A file often chains a bounty-land claim from the 1850s to a pension claim from the 1870s: order both halves when both exist. Here is what our report does with this record, and the waitlist below holds today's price for you.

Plan the whole journey

What the trip costs, start to finish

This war splits down the middle. The widows' pension files are free to view on Fold3 with no subscription, so that half of the journey costs only the report: $99, delivered in days. The bounty-land files are a separate order from the National Archives, with NARA's copy fee and mail weeks, so if your soldier's story includes land, start that order first and let the report meet it when it arrives.

Tell us about your soldier

We're opening in stages, by record type. The more you tell us, the sooner we get to yours.

We'll email you when your record type opens, and nothing else. Please don't send documents yet. We're not set up to receive them, and we'd rather not hold your files before we can do anything with them.

You're on the list.

We'll be in touch when your record type opens. If you told us you're still waiting on a file, we'll send you the ordering instructions in the meantime.
